While European companies acquiring Chinese companies has already become a common occurrence, Chinese investments in Europe are still relatively new. However, such acquisitions can offer attractive synergies to both sides:

• The Chinese side can obtain advanced technology and established brands;
• The European side can gain not only financing, but also access to the vast Chinese market.

Instead of the risk that a Chinese acquirer might close European production locations and move the production activities to China, today it is far more likely that the European location will be well maintained and even expanded, serving as a center of excellence and R&D base for the Chinese buyer.
